Datacom Leadership for Life

28/10/2011

On 19 November 2011 a team of nine Datacom Leaders drawn from our various businesses will visit a remote region of Cambodia for a week-long stay with the Bunong Hill Tribe in the Mondulkiri Province.  Their visit is part of Datacom’s Leadership for Life program.

The Leadership for Life program was developed to continue the legacy of Michael Browne, Datacom’s late Group CEO who passed away suddenly in July 2010.  Michael was a leader who set challenges for himself and for the business, always pushing the boundaries of his personal best.  In 2007, Michael established the Datacom Corporate Responsibility program in pursuit of making a difference in the communities we service.  This program seeks to embody the type of leader Michael was and to provide our team of Datacom Leaders with another vital dimension to their growth.

The team will be volunteer offering their services as teachers of English, technology (PowerPoint, HTML, social media, etc), and sports games. They will assist with the documentation of the villagers’ cultural history and provide assistance to general work endeavours, such as assisting to build a volley ball court.  They will be working with the adolescents of the village who are reportedly excited to be engaging with our team of volunteers.

In 2010 these Datacom Leaders completed the Datacom MGSM program’s three modules of leadership and motivation, strategic management and change management, achieving a Post Graduate Certificate through the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.  This Leadership for Life program complements the knowledge and perspectives of the MGSM program with a values-based leadership experience in a different and challenging environment.
