Datacom has won the TUANZ 2011 Local & Central Government Services Award for their SNAP project with the NZ Police. Datacom worked closely with NZ Police to design and build the secure website www.snap.org.nz which is the cornerstone of the NZ Police SNAP (Serial Number Action Partnership) initiative that aims to reduce property offending and disrupt the trade in stolen goods. As part of the proactive policing philosophy driven by the NZ Police, the SNAP project has reached schools and the corporate sector with companies such as ASB and SelectaDNA promoting the initiative as SNAP partners.

The website enables citizens to create and store a register of their high value assets for free. The register records identifying information such as serial numbers, make and model and photographs of each asset which the owner can easily retrieve and pass onto the police and their insurance company in the event of loss or theft. The website uses the Datacom-built igovt logon service is also hosted by Datacom on their state of the art cloud service platform.
"I congratulate Police on this well-deserved award. It acknowledges that the way Police are using technology to deliver better services and is among the best and most innovative in the public sector," Judith Collins, Minister of Police said.
In agreement Greg Magness, Managing Director of Datacom Services commented, “The SNAP project has been successful in demonstrating how technology can easily enable a nationwide programme that has the potential for huge benefits for the community.”
“We’re proud to assist the NZ Police with this initiative and help provide peace of mind for New Zealanders,” Greg Magness said.
