Datacom has taken on the role of joint ICT service provider for the Parliamentary Service and Executive Government Support.
In the past single service desks were run by separate providers for the Parliamentary Service and Executive Government Support. From Tuesday 1 June 2010 these service desks will now be combined into a single shared service desk, provided by Datacom.
The General Manager for the Parliamentary Service, Geoff Thorn, and General Manager for Executive Government Support, Janice Calvert, said the changeover process had worked very well with close cooperation from all the providers involved.
“We welcome the new Datacom team which has been working with the existing providers. We are confident of a seamless transfer when they take over responsibility for servicing the network.”
Moving to a single joint service provider for both organisations will improve efficiencies in the delivery of a seamless service to members of Parliament and Ministers.
“The move to one service provider will improve the efficiency of data transfer between our two organisations and facilitate the smooth transition between the executive and parliament for members and staff,” they said.
Datacom is the largest New Zealand owned ICT company and has a strong track record in providing managed ICT services.
“We believe the shared service desk will improve the level of service we provide to the Executive and members of Parliament.
“Work will now begin on rationalising the network infrastructure to reduce duplication and provide improved service for users of the network,” they said.
