Over 70 per cent of visitors enter or leave New Zealand via Auckland Airport, which handles over 13 million passengers a year. More than 30 international airlines serve Auckland Airport, Australasia’s second busiest international airport, after Sydney.
Datacom redesigned and developed the Auckland Airport website delivering an intuitive user interface, improved information architecture, multiple templates for different content types, effective search engine optimisation and a flexible framework for future development.
The chosen Content Management System – Sitecore, enables non-technical business users to manage the content easily, increasing the amount of control they have over the website. The site communicates key messages to a number of different audiences each with specific and unique requirements, from flight arrival and departure time information, to property leasing opportunities, retail showcasing and investor information.
A key function of the site gathers flight data from a centralised flight information database and presents it to users allowing them to sort and search arrival and departure flight details.
The website launched in early December 2008 and within 3 weeks of going live, usage of the site had almost doubled and specific search phrase indexing had increased markedly in key search engines. The site was a finalist in the Sitecore ‘2008 Website of the Year’ awards and a winner of the ‘Best Travel Site’.
